What Men Don't Understand About PMS

Just about every woman has heard a joke cracked on her about having PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome). More times than often, these jokes come from a guy. This is because guys tend to use the PMS excuse for a fancier way of saying the woman is out of control, a nag, complaining too much or a hypochondriac.

What you do not understand gentlemen, is that PMS is not an excuse that women make up so they can spend the day lying on the couch watching soap operas. Also, when a woman is raging during that time, it is because of true hormone and neuro-chemical changes going on inside her brain. PMS is real guys and the jokes about it are getting old.

When a woman is going through PMS, her estrogen hormones contribute to increases in brain activity. It has been known to have central neurological effects on the brain which results in a blood sugar drop, depression, anxiety, crying spells, fatigue, headaches, cramping, fluid retention, decreased performance in work or social settings, sleep problems, confusion and more.

Now, just imagine if you had to go through that every single month? Do you not think that you might fly off the handle occasionally when feeling disrespected or taken advantage of? Also, would it not tick you off to no point that if you decide to lie down on the couch for a few minutes to relieve the twisting knots that are going on in your stomach, your spouse walks in and claims you are using PMS as an excuse to do nothing all day? I’m sure it would. Have a little compassion gentlemen. Being a woman can be a tough job and my bet is not many of you could do it.
